Sophie Friedl’s dissertation project looks into the question of how the Bavarian public health administration was shaped in the context of the newly founded democracy. The project takes into account the self-understanding and organizational culture of the newly reconstructed medical administration, along with the criteria and actors involved in its personnel policy, its reckoning with the legacy of Nazi medicine in the decision-making process, as well as attitudes towards the media and external associations. This longitudinal study investigates the Bavarian public health administration from the ministerial level and medical office chiefs down to individual health offices and medical and care institutions.
