The Archival Online Database

The archival database provides research results based on our most recent updates. It contains the following groups of holdings: eyewitness records, personal papers, association documents, collections, manuscripts, court records, state and party documents, maps, posters, and the institutional records of the IfZ itself. The database is expanded at regular intervals. Please note, however, that for data protection reasons, not all archival holdings can be accessed via the public online database. This applies, for example, to court files and documents that are less than 30 years old. In such cases, you will see the message “You are not authorized to view these objects”. For further information on these documents, please send us a written request. We can then provide you with information on the content of restricted files.

Pre-orders of up to of 10 archival records are permitted via the archival database. The files may be subject to access restrictions or restrictions on use, and are provided only in accordance with the user regulations. There is no legal claim to be provided the pre-ordered documents.

For technical reasons, it is not currently possible to search for specific persons.

To the database

An introduction to the archival database can be found here (German).

If a search does not lead to expected results, the reference books at the Information Desk can be of further help.

For information on other holding groups please see the menu to the left of the page.

Further questions about our holdings can be directed in writing to the archives.
