The Everyday Lives of Occupiers in the Soviet Zone: Documents and Eyewitness Reports, 1945-1949

Projektinhalt:

Pursuing approaches from social and cultural history, Elke Scherstjanoi’s project focuses on everyday phenomena during the Soviet occupation of Germany from the perspective of the Soviet commandants. The study looks into social connections, matters internal to working relationships, diverse aspects of cultural identity and intercultural communications, as well as everyday conflicts within the context of problems specific to maintaining rule. The materials derive mostly from the commandants’ records. Photographic sources will also be gathered and eyewitness interviews archived and prepared for publication.
